What to expect from your consultations...
Blood Testing

You will be offered full antenatal blood testing in pregnancy.  In New Zealand you are entitled to free HIV testing if you would like it.  We will determine your blood group, antibody and iron levels, rubella, syphillis and hepatitis B status.

Antenatal Screening for Down Syndrome & Other Conditions

This test will involve you having blood tests taken between 9-13 Weeks, and an Ultrasound of baby between 11-13 weeks.

This screening will determine your risk for having a baby with Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, Trisomy 13 and Trisomy 18.  Occasionally it can pick up that you are potentially at risk of a pregnancy related health condition.

Health History

A history will be taken of your health and medical conditions, including previous pregnancies and any complications that may have occured.

Nutrition in Pregnancy

Booklets will be provided with information on food safety in pregnancy, and any questions answered.

Answering your Questions

If you have any specific questions you want answered, these can be answered at the consult.

Early Pregnancy Ultrasound

If you have decided not to have full antenatal screening, but wish to have an early ultrasound if you are unsure of your conception date, I will send a referral to an ultrasonographer.  There may be a part charge for this.
